Black Elk
Black Elk’s visions are both personal and universal. Though he remained disheartened that he, their medicine man and healer, could not bring happiness to his tribe, but in exposing his visions to a broader world they stay hopeful and alive. He was more travelled than his Oglala relations, having been taken to England and then travelled through much of Europe, giving where he found kindness. He knew the roundness of the world, its center and its place. All this he expressed in Lakota terms; but it was he himself who opened his insights to anyone who might wish to find them.
In this context I continue with my series.
